My Charger Suddenly Isn’t Working For My Laptop?

July 23rd, 2009

I have Windows Vista, and I’ve had it for a while now, but the charger isn’t working anymore?
This morning, the charger worked fine, and all of a sudden I noticed it wasn’t charging anymore.
It’s plugged in, and I can’t seem to find a way to get it to work again.
(it’s hp pavilion by the way)
I need to find a solution before my laptop battery dies?
Please help!
Thanks!

  1. Jerry J says:

First wiggle the connection whee it plugs into the computer and see if it works. If it does the power jack on the motherboard is bad. If it doesn’t go to e bay for a replacement

You could check the wiring by wiggling it, change the plug fuse, or try a different charger if you can borrow /buy one.
Try disconnecting the charger use the laptop on battery for 30 minutes then replug the charger in.
It might be your laptop at fault though which will require the PC to be taken in for repair.

Find someone with a VOM (volt ohmmeter) so that they can actually put the tester on your charger cable to see if it is putting out voltage. If it is, you could have a bad battery or a power management problem. Take the time to rule out the charger before spending so much effort to get another one.
Every electrician and auto mechanic has a VOM.
