Should I Get A Macbook?

October 31st, 2009

Currently I have an HP Pavilion laptop.. but it’s starting to get really slow. and the battery is broken..but im too lazy to buy a new one.. im also broke. i had my laptop for almost 3 years now.
i started getting interested in the macbooks, because some of my friends got them, and love them.
are they good laptops? are they better than pcs? i know this is always a big argument between people, but really which one is better?
i usually use my laptop for Photos/editing, videos/editing, webcam chats with friends, school work, internet, AIM, that kind of stuff.
Do you think a macbook is better for me?

Macs are especially great for creative stuff like photos and video. I have an old Sony VAIO, a current HP laptop, and a MacBook Pro (supplied by work). After using Windows the past 6 years, I got the Mac six months ago. I didn’t find it instantly easy to switch to, but after two weeks of continually going back to the HP… I’ve now got so much into the Mac that I use it 99.9% of the time. In fact I should get rid of the HP now. I really like the HP, and it’s a high-end one with fast processor and really high-res screen, but I have to say now the Mac is ‘better’.
Really what I like about the Mac in particular is the software that comes with it. We all know that you get bundled software with a PC: for viewing a DVD, burning CDs/DVDs, sometimes photo editing or even video editing. But let me assure you, the software with a Mac (iLife 08) is just so fantastic you’ll wonder what’s wrong with Windows programmers.
If you decide to get a Mac of any type, and you’re a student, make sure you ask for student pricing! Apple and independent resellers will give you a discount if you ask.
Next thing worth knowing is that there are a lot of rumors that Apple are about to change the MacBook and MacBook Pro models and the expectation is that it will be in September. Apple keep new releases very secret, so really no one knows for sure, but there are some pretty strong rumors.
Happy to answer any specific questions
    Rob.

I am in exactly the same position as you. You wouldnt believe the amount of time i have spent trawling through the internet looking at the whole mac vs pc argument, compatability issues, reliability, cost, etc.
my opinion is that the macbook is brilliant and i will be getting one in two weeks but there are two things that are holding me back,
Firstly, it is expensive. In britain it is 1GB RAM 2.1GHZ processsor 120GB hard drive fot £699. I found an asus pc with a 2 GHZ processor 4GB RAM and a 320GB hard drive for £599. Then again, thats the difference im willing to pay in order to get leopard.
Secondly, new macbooks are due soon (by september) so it depends if you dont mind waiting. I wont be because i believe when a product comes to the end of its cycle all the flaws have been dealt with and the product is at its best.
by the way the macbook can do all that you listed in your question but you will need at least 2 GB RAM and either iwork of office for mac for your school work.
