Desperate Computer Help Needed Please!!?

November 13th, 2009

I just bought a new HP Pavilion DV6601AX with Windows Vista, but did not get a standard antivirus with it. A few days ago my friend installed an antivirus program on it for me, and it worked fine. However, yesterday, I tried to boot it, and the window screen did show up (as completely BLACK for a while) and then the taskbar came up, but the cursor never stopped being busy. It just showed up as a ‘busy circle’. I gave it some time, but it kept going for half an hour! I really need to work on a word document, but I can’t even click on anything. I restarted it, and the same thing kept happening. I even tried putting the battery in again in case it wasn’t installed right, but nothing changed. What am I supposed to do?
I am also more comfortable with Windows XP and I was planning to get that installed… but I am really scared because I just got a new laptop. HELP ME PLEASE!!! I live all alone in an apartment and I’m not that great with computers.

Computer Restarts Constantly…diagnosis Help.?

November 6th, 2009

So I got this laptop (HP Pavilion DV9000 Entertainment PC) with Windows Vista Home Premium. Here is the problem…
When you turn it on and the computer restarts before the BIOS even comes on. So my first reaction is that the screen is busted. But no history or signs of physical damage. So next I checked the fan for the CPU, works just fine. I cleared the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery, nothing. I took out the hard drive and attached it to a USB adapter to my desktop, works fine. I attached an external monitor to the laptop and moved the image over…nothing because it restarts before it gets anywhere. I put in a CD to boot off…still no image, BUT it did not restart. Lastly, took of the battery and ran of wall current.
So, this leaves me with either a busted screen, a messed up boot files on the hard drive, or hardware issue. Any other Ideas?

Please Help – Computer Spill Question?

October 31st, 2009

I spilled cranberry juice on my new laptop, an HP Pavilion DV6449us.
I wiped it off all the surfaces and tilted the laptop to one side to drain it. And I removed the battery, which was dry.
My question is – should I unscrew the compartments on the underside of the laptop? I’m not sure what these are and whether it makes sense to remove them to help with the drying process.
Thanks in advance for your help.
