Laptop Processor Compatibility Question?

August 31st, 2009

i have recently come into possession of two laptops:
1. hp compaq presario 2500 (intel pentium 4 of unknown speed)
2. hp pavilion ze4300 (amd that runs at 1.66)
the question is can i replace my amd with the intel without my laptop melting from running too hot (the compaq has 3 fans and i only count 1-2 on the pavilion)?
alternatively, do you think it would be a better option to move everything (ram, better battery….ect) over to the compaq and use it instead. the only reason i didnt in the first place is due to a lot of cosmetic damage to the compaq’s top (cigarette burns, scratches, and the chrome ring has milky white blotches) so if it is so much of a better machine that i need to use it instead then i will but i don’t like looking like i pulled the laptop out of the garbage

Should I Pick A Turion 64 X2 Or An Intel Core 2 Duo Processor For A New Hp Laptop?

June 9th, 2009

Helping a relative buy a laptop for a middle-aged cousin. He’s not too experienced with computers, so I want to get him a future-proof and somewhat newbie-proof processor.
I’m pretty settled on the HP Pavilion dv6000 series, but I’m torn between getting a Turion 64 x2 or an Intel core 2 duo.
For about the same price, I can get an AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-56(1.8GHz/1MB) plus a bigger battery and a remote control, or for the same price I can get just an Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5200 (1.60 GHz) minus those two extras.
Are there any significant benefits for going with the Intel over the Turion? Is 1.6 GHz on a Turion dual the equivalent of 1.6 GHz on an Intel dual? Is a Turion preferable to an older, $50 cheaper Intel Core Duo 1.60 GHz chip?
Please let me know your own experience with computer tech in your answer. Thank you!
