I want to purchase a netbook in the near future. I have an old laptop that I hardly ever use because it is so big and slow. I want something that is easly portable, and that I can use for web browsing and for work. I do a lot of work in word documents, updating and editing, and would like to be able to do this more at home and when im on the go. I want it to be fast and easy to use. Also, I DONT want to spend a lot of money, but I’d like it to be pretty fast and I’d even like to be able to run Photoshop every once in a while if needed. I have done quite a bit of reserach and below is what I have it narrowed down to…can anyone suggest what would be best?
Dell Refurbished Outlet:
Inspiron Mini 9, Windows XP, 1GB Memory, 8 GB Solid State Drive: $249
Inspiron Mini 9, Windows XP, 1GB Memory, 16 GB Solid State Drive: $279
Inspiron Mini 9, Ubuntu Linux, 2 GB Memory, 8 GB Solid State Drive: $259
Inspiron Mini 10, Windows XP, 1 GB Memory, 160 GB Hard Drive: $339
Best Buy:
Asus EeePC 1000HD, Windows XP, 1GB Memory, 120 GB Hard Drive: $269
Which do you think I will get the best bang for my buck?? Thanks!!!!!!

First, refurb may be cheap, but they aren’t always the best types of computers to get. Second, don’t go for the Mini 9. There are cheaper options avalible, like the Acer Aspire One in the Best Buy Outlet. It does more things than a Dell and is only $269. Third, SSDs are new and all, but you can get a bigger hard drive by using SATA. Lastly, the mini 10, from what I hear, may be good, but it is supposed to have a GPS, TV tuner, and 6-cell battery. You would be better off with an inspiran 13, which has vista and a bunch of upgrade options. So, in conclusion, if you’re looking for something now, get either the EccPC or Acer. If you’re willing to wait though, everything is always changing, so before you know it the inspiran 10 will have thouse features. Good luck and happy buying!
you can’t use photoshop in linux (ie Ubuntu)
SSD’s apparently have a limited lifespan I just read yesterday (I don’t like the sound of that!)
Do you really want such a small screen?
I use linux which is great and GIMP is as good as photoshop so don’t rule Ubuntu out but you will not be able to burn a disk with no optical drive.
You could look at other refurbished laptops. Lenevo is great for weight, size and battery life. (thinking portability)
