Worth Having My Computer Fixed?

November 9th, 2009

Hey- First let me say thanks for taking the time to open this question.
I have an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC laptop- I’m not sure exactly what happened to it, but when i turn it on nothing happens to the screen? The lights on the keyboard turn on and i can kind of hear the “system” start up, but nothing on the screen…Not even a color change or lighting up, nothing. I’m not sure what could be causing this…I’ve tried taking the battery out, putting it back in, plugging it in without the battery etc…It didn’t have any contact with water or anything else- Anyone know what could be causing this? And is it worth getting fixed?

It is possible that your drivers have been corrupted or changed.
It is also possible that your screen has burnt out. But I think you would have seen warning signs.
Try to plug your laptop into another monitor. or a flat screen TV.
your plug and play should pick it up.
If this doesn’t work you might need to take it to a local computer store and let them look at it. or if you know someone that is able to hook it up to there system than they can probably find out what is wrong.
It sounds like your system is booting up. so it may not be as bad as it seems.

Is it under warranty? If so, send it back – it should be covered.
This is most likely the case of a failed component – one of motherboard, CPU, RAM, battery, or videocard. If it doesn’t work even when plugged in, then it’s most likely not the battery.
Otherwise – it’s going to be a very expensive and difficult fix. You could almost get two new laptops for the amount it’d cost to fix it. It’s amazing how you can get so much power in such a little form factor for so cheap these days. :)

I had exactly the same problem by the sounds of it with my Acer Aspire laptop about 2 months ago, i had to send mine back to Acer as it was luckily under guarantee and turns out the main power board had failed and had to be replaced, i would probably get it repaired if you dont want another laptop. The chances are the memory can be saved and the hard drive not even touched.

The first thing i would try is to reformat your laptop with the boot-up disk… you’ll lose what you have on your computer, but it might get your computer back up. Usually that works…
Obviously it’s not a motherboard crash because if it was, the computer wouldn’t do anything.
If rebooting it from the reboot disk doesn’t work, then i would call HP’s trouble line or use their online help. If that isn’t fast enough, see about your warranty, if it’s still good, then see if the store you bought it from will repair it, or arrange to help you get your computer back to the manufacturer.

start ur computer start tapping F8 if u can get to safe mode than all is not lost
than look for ur hp recovery mode it will restore u back to new
before u do that and u can get to safe mode download all the things u want or when u recover all will be lost
if u cant even get to that than have a repairshop look at it –it could be a # of things

Okay, First try to attach a Dual Head to it. If the screen doesn’t show up there, there is a problem with the laptop so best solution is to recover your laptop. If the monitor shows up, the screen must be broken. If none help, go to a repairer.

If everything else seems to be ok then it may just be the backlight.A computer repair shop could fix it easily, the lights are only $15-$20
